Sam is a self taught artist who specialises in drawing and painting portraits, particularly of children. His main passion is for the challenge of capturing a likeness and personality of any sitter.

He read History of Art at UCL, graduating in 2006. He went on to study Paper Conservation at Camberwell before joining Bonhams Auctioneers in 2008 where he specialised in 19th Century Paintings. He left Bonhams in 2016 to pursue a career as an artist.

Sam works in a studio he built in the garden of the family home just outside Bath. He travels to commissions across the UK, with the majority of his work being in London.

His approach to portraiture is based on simple draughtsmanship that results in a timeless yet informal feeling to his portraits. The whole idea is to create subtle and intimate portraits that are a pleasure to live with.
